What本单元的话题主题属于“人与社会”范畴的子主题---中外文学史上有代表性的作家和作品。语篇中内容中,BettyMr Jackson讨论孔子、莎士比亚和马克吐温三位伟大作家和影响。

Why:本单元中语篇传递的意义为,通过讨论伟大作家和他们的作品,学生可以更好地理解他们的思想和智慧,并从中获得启发和教育。

How:在本单元的语篇中,通过问答式结构dialogue的形式,用非正式语体来谈论中外文学史上的著名作家和作品,并用一般现在时的被动语态评论作家。

目前,九年级的学生已知:

1.       已经学习了简单句的基本句型,有较好的英语积累。

2. 对于孔子、莎士比亚和马克吐温三位作家有简单了解。

未知:

1.       被动语态在之前的阅读过程中接触过,但并未系统讲解。

2.       用英语评价名家和名著有较大难度。

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Warming-up

Show the following two sentences on the screen:

1. When three people are walking together, I am sure to find teachers among them.   

2. Do not do it to others what you do not want.

Then ask questions and ask students to discuss and answer.

1. In which book can we read these sayings?

2. What do you know about Confucius?

3. What other famous writers do you know?

 

Step 2 Pre-listening

The teacher shows three pictures on the big screen: Confucius, Shakespeare and Mark Twain. Then ask the following questions in Activity 1:

Who are they?

Why are they famous?

 Ask students to answer the questions about the characters in the three pictures.

 

Step 3 While-reading

 Task 1: The teacher plays the recording and checks whether the students' answers are consistent with the listening materials. Then play the recording again and ask students to complete the sentences in Activity 2.

1. Confucius is well-known in _____________________.
2. Shakespeare wrote ________________.

3. Mark Twain’s stories are set ___________ of the US.   

Task 2: Listen and choose.

Task 3: Listen again and match the people with the descriptions. (Activity 3)

Step 4 Post- reading

Task 1: Read and retell the dialogue. (Activity 4 on P57)

Task 2: The teacher gives the students some time to translate the text and circle the new words and phrases in the text: discuss, thinker, wise, review, influence, make sense, by the way, suppose.

Task 3:  (1) Ask students to guess the meaning of new words and phrases according to the context, and then compare with the word list to check if the guess is accurate.

(2) Then ask the students to read again and find out the key phrases and sentence patterns in the text.

(3) Ask students to say the meaning of these phrases and make as many sentences

as possible. Then the teacher explains the usage of the key sentence patterns.

Reflection --- 培优 4 沈瑾瑜

本单元的话题主题属于“人与社会”范畴的子主题---中外文学史上有代表性的作家和作品。在本节课的语篇中,BettyMr Jackson讨论孔子、莎士比亚和马克吐温三位伟大作家和影响,并用一般现在时的被动语态评论作家和作品等。话题比较贴近学生的生活,而且九年级的学生对于文中出现的三位有代表性的作家比较熟悉,有一定的知识储备,有利于开展本单元的教学。在教学过程中,既要注重听力和口头表达的训练,又要注重对本课目标的强调---本单元重点词汇和一般现在时的被动语态,并在上课过程中强化被动语态的结构和用法。

沈瑾瑜同学的英语词汇比较扎实,基础良好,且有较强的学习能力,但是该生的缺点是不自觉,缺乏学习的主动性,不会提前预习,课后的巩固也不能自主完成。因此,在本单元的授课过程中,课堂上找她回答问题并促进她深入思考。鉴于该生的口语表达能力较为薄弱,在进行说的训练时,请她发言谈论自己喜欢的作家和作品并说明原因。在课后习题巩固时,要求孩子在规定的时间内上交,并对她的习题进行面批。
