Analysis of the Teaching Material
| What:This is the first lesson of Module 12 Unit 1 in the first semester of Grade Eight. The type of the lesson is Listening and Speaking. The topic is about help or giving someone basic medical help, which is closely related to students’ life, but most of them may don’t know what to do exactly. Why:This unit is aimed to let students know what they should do in an accident and to cultivate the students’ listening skills. It is very important to let students know the significance of first aid which is ignored by many people. After learning, it will lay a foundation for students to talk about what to do in an accident. How:First, presenting some pictures and let the students know the accidents.Then the dialogue mentioned a usual accident at school to catch the students’ attention. The dialogue will let students immerse in the situation and let them know what to do by asking questions. | ||||
Analysis of the Target Students
| Students in Grade Eight are better at listening and speaking than before. After learning in middle school for one year, they have been able to understand the instructions in class and can cooperate with their classmates with the help of the teacher. Because they have maintained some language knowledge and learning skills, they will be able to learn and talk about some basic medical help, but they may not know what to do exactly when meet an accident and can’t express a lot. | ||||
Teaching objectives | After this lesson, students are able to: 1.Students will know the new words and phrases and master the sentence pattern and the modal verbs. 2.Students will know what to do about first aid. They will use different listening skills to get some information. 3.Students will learn to talk about basic medical help: what is the most important thing when an accident happens and they may know their duty to learn more about first aid and what can we do in an accident before professional help arrives. | ||||

Step 2: Pre-listening
1.Show some pictures. Talk about if the actions are good or harmful. If accidents
happen, what should we do to help the people in danger? Learn the new words and phrases with the help of the PPT.
2.Accidents are everywhere, so we should think about the risk of the accident. Look at some pictures and give some advice. (Tell what could happen.)

利用PPT呈现的图片和给出的提示问题引导学生说出本课的重点单词和词组,对重点的单词、词组和句型进行有针对性的操练,也为情态动词表推测的用法提供了真实的语境。幻灯片上图片的使用,使得词汇的学习更加生动形象,也体现了语境中学习词汇的教学理念,为听力环节做铺垫。

Step4: Post-listening

3. Play a video about first aid.
The first important steps in giving first aid are the four C’s: Check, Call, Care, Correct.
Use first aid correctly, then you can protect yourselves and help others.
【设计意图】
1.读后完成思维导图,让学生更好地掌握自己本节课所学内容,形成自己的知识框架。
2.本环节为输出环节,创设真实语境进行对话演练,学生根据本课所学的事故处理方法与同伴讨论与交流,并进行表演,将所学知识活学活用,达到学以致用的目的。
3.通过观看视频拓展学生自己的课外知识,让学生知道在生活中遇到其他事故时,如何处理并解决。

培优学生:八(2)班----徐慧雅
本堂课是一堂听说课,在前面的模块中已经学过有关事故的话题,她对此了解较多,因此,在复习导入中能够很快地说出图片中的事故,在头脑风暴中也能提出遇到事故的解决方法。在教学中,让她根据图片来描述事故以及可能带来的后果,一步步用问题引导她,从而让她能够轻松地描述图片,同时也在句子表达中练习了情态动词could的使用和祈使句的表达。在最后的输出环节,让她和小组成员进行讨论和表演,但是她在语言表达方面还不太流畅,不能熟练运用英语表达自己的看法,在课下再单独指导她如何去表达,锻炼她的语言运用能力。
